Leadership Continues to Lead NCMGM to New Heights
By Todd Pittman, NCMGM President

NCMGM Leadership is composed of the elected board members and the appointed committee chairs.  Without these individuals and the time they donate, our organization would not be where we are today. The NCMGM leadership is made up of volunteers who are passionate about healthcare and are dedicated to our industry.  The Leadership is also made up of individuals who work well together to strive to make your organization one of the leading states recognized by MGMA.    I wanted to take time to highlight some of the ongoing accomplishments NCMGM has made over the past year.

Membership - NCMGM’s current membership total is 611 members.  Of these members 258 are American College of Medical Practice Executive (ACMPE) members (21 fellows, 78 certified members, and 159 nominees).

Education - NCMGM continues to hold 2 conferences a year that have become highly successful for the organization and provided top quality education venues for membership.  In the Fall of 2003 and Spring of 2004, we had a record number of attendees and vendors.

Leadership Development - NCMGM held its annual Leadership Retreat in February 2004 for strategic planning, leadership training, and develop goals of the organization.

Scholarship Support - The Richard L. Davis/Barbara B. Watson scholarship is offered to practice managers wanting to continue their professional development through education.  The scholarship was started by the North Carolina Medical Group managers, now with nationwide participation.  Annually, the NCMGM Board makes a decision to provide additional financial support to this initiative in a spirit of support for continuing education.

Alliance Sponsorship Program - NCMGM launched an Annual Sponsorship Program.  The program allows sponsors to choose from a list of sponsorship opportunities, in addition to their receiving a variety of standard of benefits.  There are presently 10 Bronze sponsors, 1 Silver sponsor, and 1 Platinum sponsor.

Creation of NCMGM website - In the Fall of 2004, our website will have some new features including enhanced posting of documents for references, online registration and calendars.  We have also reactivated our listserv for membership to discuss pertinent issues in practice management.

Job Postings - One of the hottest benefits to our members.  This is also posted on the website for up to 3 months. In 2003, we distributed 19 job postings.  As of July 9, 2004, we have already distributed 21 job postings.

Salary Survey - Bi-annually, NCMGM conducts a salary and benefits survey.  This year, NCMGM has developed an electronic survey for easier data collection.  We had 192 practices participate and the results will be distributed with statewide and regional data.

Government Relations - NCMGM held it’s Second Annual Legislative Day at our state capitol in late June, 2004. Our Committee maintains a relationship with the NC Medical Society and State Legislators to stay abreast of issues that may be of interest to our members.

NC Medical Society Relationship - Our relationship with the NC Medical Society has been enhanced through an ex-officio member on our Leadership Council that acts as a liaison between our two organizations.  It has helped with our communication between the organizations and brought forward new opportunities not available previously.

North Carolina is also proud to be the home of 2 past Chairs of the MGMA Board (Larrie Dawkins and Barbara Watson), numerous other National and Regional leadership positions, and the 2003 ACMPE Recruiter of the Year (Sylvia Icenhour).

All members of the Leadership Council and the NCMGM Board are to be credited with the above accomplishments over the past year.  The leadership of your organization continues to strive to offer it’s members the best in networking, education and advocacy.  I personally challenge anyone interested being involved in the leadership of NCMGM to “GET INVOLVED AND STAY INVOLVED”.  This is your organization and you can make a difference by being involved.
